How to prepare for PSLE
What Singapore parents ask most about PSLE — timeline, subjects, scoring worries, and when crash support actually helps.
Prep timeline
-
P5
Map AL bands honestly. Close topic gaps in Math/Science; build composition stamina in English/MT.
-
P6 Term 1–2
Full papers under timed conditions. Prelims are the dress rehearsal — review mistakes by topic, not just scores.
-
P6 Term 3–PSLE
Short crash packages (subject specialists) beat stacking more tuition centres. Sleep and routine matter more than new content.
What parents ask
Straight answers — not marketing fluff.
What do AL scores actually mean for secondary posting?
Achievement Levels 1–8 per subject feed a total score. Parents should plan subject strengths, not chase perfection in every paper.
Should we hire four different tutors?
One strong multi-subject boot camp or two specialists (e.g. Math + English) is usually clearer than four uncoordinated schedules.
When is a crash camp worth it?
When prelims show a clear weak subject and there are 3–6 weeks left — daily 1–2h focused work, Mon–Sun, with a written syllabus.
Core subjects
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Mother Tongue
Practical tips
- Rank tutors by rating and recent PSLE reviews — then check package syllabus.
- Buy packages with validity covering the exam window so unused lessons don’t vanish mid-revision.
- Keep one “parent review” night a week: look at marked papers together, don’t only outsource.
