How to prepare for O-Level

A clear parent playbook for O-Level years — subject load, prelims vs nationals, and intensive packages when time is short.

Prep timeline

  1. Sec 1–2

Foundations and subject choice awareness. Don’t overload with exam camps yet.

  2. Sec 3

Content volume jumps. Weekly subject support + holiday intensives for weak modules.

  3. Sec 4 / prelims → nationals

Prelim post-mortem → targeted crash packs. Timed papers and marking schemes over new textbooks.

What parents ask

Straight answers — not marketing fluff.

How many subjects need tuition?

Usually the ones dragging L1R5/L1R4 — not every subject. Protect sleep and CCA energy.

Prelims went badly — too late?

Not if gaps are topic-specific. A 30-day daily boot camp on one subject can move grades more than restarting everything.

Online vs centre crash courses?

Online packages with recorded lessons let students replay weak topics; centres help if structure at home is weak.

Core subjects

  • English
  • Elementary / Additional Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • Humanities
  • Mother Tongue

Practical tips

  • Filter boot camps by O-Level / Sec 3–4 and sort by tutor rating.
  • Ask for a lesson-by-lesson syllabus tied to paper components (Paper 1 vs 2).
  • Combine one crash pack with school prelim scripts — tutors should mark like examiners.
